How and When To Get Here
Airport pick up is from Gander International airport and return transportation is either to this airport or to a local motel and is included in any package. We suggest to those choosing this travel method to schedule their arrival in Gander no later than 2pm on Sunday and their departure on the following Sunday. Many guests find it is easier to fly into Gander on Saturday night and reserve a room at a local motel for the night. We will then pick up those guests on our way into camp on Sunday between 12-2pm. We would like to point out that motels in the local area during this time of the year are often busy so book reservations well in advance. Guests should consider flying if they are under time constraints as flying will save hunting guests several days travelling time.
Please NOTE that due to the reduction in air traffic caused by a dramatic drop in passenger demand due to Covid-19 airlines have scaled back services into and out of airport locations in Newfoundland.*****
Please check with Canada One Travel Planners at 1-866-401-9900 or visit their website at www.canada-one.com if you wish to fly. They provide competative airline flights from many US cities into Gander and Deer Lake, Newfoundland. They are located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
However we would suggest that driving also has its advantages. Often times the cost of meat shipping can offset driving costs, the torment of potential lost luggage, additional baggage fees or airline firearm fees. However the ferries running on the gulf can incur travel delays in windy weather. If in doubt over warm weather concerns, many of our clients have carried a freezer and small generator in their vehicle to keep meat frozen for their trip back home. Coolers also work quite well.
For those guests who prefer to drive, the gulf ferry crossings are via modern super-ferries and are interesting, comfortable and relaxing. There are two crossings daily from North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Port-aux-Basques, Newfoundland. Reservations should be made well in advance of your trip as this is a very busy time of year for this service. The Marine Atlantic toll free RESERVATIONS NUMBER is 1-800-341-7981 or you may visit their web site at www.marineatlanatic.ca *** Please note that starting in 2017 Marine Atlantic now requires that passengers transporting firearms have trigger locks on eack weapon and locks on cases.
As we go into the lodge on Sunday of each week early in the afternoon, it is important for all guests to arrive in a timely manner. Many guests who prefer to drive find it easier to arrive in Newfoundland on Saturday and stay the night in either Corner Brook or Deer Lake, a two hour drive from the ferry, then leave on Sunday morning to drive into Bishop's Falls with an estimated driving time of two and a half hours. Others prefer the Saturday midnight ferry crossing from North Sydney that arrives in Newfoundland at 6-7am Sunday morning. Estimated time of arrival in Bishop's Falls for this crossings is around 2pm. The advantage of the former is that guests can arrive in Bishop's Falls before noon allowing plenty of time for repacking of gear into our vehicles. As we may have guests flying into Gander also the same week, it allows us to pick those persons up in a timely fashion too.
